National Aviary researchers submit drone footage to make case for ivory-billed woodpecker’s existence

Researchers from the National Aviary in Pittsburgh’s North Side are among a group of experts who presented new evidence to prevent the federal government from declaring the ivory-billed woodpecker as extinct. Read more about it in Triblive, Aug. 12, 2022.

National Aviary team insists Ivory-Billed Woodpecker is not extinct: National Aviary researcher Steven Latta is part of a research team documenting what they believe is proof of the existence of the Holy Grail of birds, the ivory-billed woodpecker. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has not yet declared the bird extinct and Latta’s research work is among other information that the agency is considering.
